SONIC Sundae Shakes & Giveaway

SONIC contacted us a couple weeks ago about their new Sundae Shakes, offering to send both a lucky reader and us at Scoopalicious a $20 gift card to SONIC as well as some super fun drinking straws.

Here's how they described the shakes to us since we have yet to try them:
  • Available for a limited time in three delectable flavors: Turtle, Classic Hot Fudge and Strawberry Dream.
  • 100% sippable (no spoons necessary!) and served in a new metallic cup.
  • Made with SONIC’s Real Ice Cream.
The weather is perfect for a drive-in treat, but with a teething daughter who hasn't been sleeping too well, we haven't gotten a chance to head up north to our nearest SONIC to try them.

But that shouldn't keep us from sharing our good fortune with one lucky reader.

For a chance to win do one (or more) of the following by Wednesday, August 24th, at 11:59 PM PST:

  • Comment on below on which flavor you'd like to try most (one chance)
  • Like Scoopalicious on Facebook and let us know you did! (one chance)
  • Like SONIC on Facebook and let us know you did! (one chance)
  • Send a friend (or friends) over to like Scoopalicious on Facebook and let us know. (One chance per added friend.)
  • Send a friend (or friends) over to like SONIC on Facebook and let us know. (One chance per added friend.)
  • Repost this post on Facebook or your blog -- yep, let us know... (Two chances per post, I am feeling generous!)
Whew!

Happy SONIC!

Note: Please leave your email address in case you win. If you don't want to post it here, you can email us at scoopaliciousblog (at) gmail (dot) com.

This year, we are doing things a bit differently.  We've asked three of our favorite dessert bloggers to help us judge the contest.  If you have not checked out these amazing blogs, now is a good time to head over there, try to figure out what flavors they like and don't like browse their recipes, and leave bribes say, "Hi!"
Each of these judges will be writing a post on their own blogs about their top three ice cream cupcakes - giving you a chance for your cupcake and your blog to get even more exposure!

    Hooray for Holly

Turkey Hill's Super Sundae contest was loads of fun (even though my 5 year old razzes me about her recipe being a finalist and not mine!) and even more fun having Holly being crowned with the winning Super Sundae. She is going to celebrate by sharing her winnings with her kindergarten class and having an ice cream party for them all. I have a feeling she is going to be pretty popular that day. Thanks again Turkey Hill for hosting a fun contest and thank you to all of you who voted and voted and voted for her. We can't wait until our fun ice cream prize pack arrives!

    Friday, November 19, 2010

Yippee we have a finalist..PLEASE VOTE NOW for Sundae #3

In Holly's eyes (my 5 year old) she is already a winner just having her creation chosen as a finalist for the Turkey Hill Super Sundae contest. The fun part now is voting, voting, voting for her "It's a Party" Sundae #3 and keeping our fingers crossed that it comes out on top. I told her if she wins she can use the supply of ice cream for an ice cream party for her class so she is even more excited to come in first place of course.

So Pretty Please With a Cherry on Top go to Turkey's Hill blog and vote for Holly's "It's a Party" Sundae #3 as the best Super Sundae!

TO VOTE...just leave a comment at the bottom of the post about the finalists.

    The finalist....and hopefully the winner!

Entry #2 for Turkey Hill's Super Sundae Contest

So you've seen what Mom (aka me) came up with for the Turkey Hill Super Sundae Contest now here is what my creative daughter, age 5, built all by herself. I told her her mission was to make up a sundae with what we have in our cupboards. Her entry is titled "It's a Party"!

    It's a Party
A raft of Marshmallows coated with Hot Fudge and Caramel sauce topped with Turkey Hill Party Cake Ice Cream and finished off with Whipped Cream and colored sprinkles and nonpareils.

Well her thoughts on why it is truly a party is because two friends can share it, it has Party Cake ice cream, it is loaded with full size marshmallows, it has fun colors and is coated with her all time favorite of sprinkles and nonpareils. Nothing we ever make or bake lacks sprinkles. I seriously should buy stock in them. I give her props for a fun looking sundae. Yes, I helped out a bit with the food styling but she loaded all the ingredients all by herself..mostly ;) I had to take away the chocolate sauce at one point or it would have been called It's a Party Boat floating away in sauce! The funny thing is she stacks the bottom with full size marshmallows (who would even eat those I know!) then she puts the sauces on top of them instead of the ice cream. So unless you stuff yourself with marshmallows you may not appreciate the yummy toppings. Regardless she had fun and it looks fantastic and that was the point.

So once again...let's keep our fingers crossed that one of our entries is a finalist and we will be sure to let you know if you have the chance to vote for one of our fun sundaes.

Last day is today to enter...I probably shouldn't encourage you since it lowers my chances but I am always excited to see other creative entries too so feel free!

Entry #1 for Turkey Hill's Super Sundae Contest

Here's the gist of the contest...make up a recipe using Turkey Hill Ice Cream for a sundae, name it and take a fabulous photo of it. Not so tough so I thought I'd give it a shot. This is my entry titled "Oh Snap"!

    Oh Snap
Turkey Hill Ginger Snap Ice Cream sandwiched between two Pepperidge Farms Gingerman cookies drizzled with Dark Chocolate Fudge Sauce, Caramel sauce, and topped off with Whipped Cream

Once all entries are in they will choose four of their favorite entries as semi-finalists and will post them in November (contect ends the 14th) and then its up to you to vote and the sundae with the most votes wins. Keep your fingers crossed that you get the chance to vote for my Oh Snap concoction. I have to say for myself...it was quite good!

Stay tuned for Entry #2 made with love by the other ice cream lover in my house

The Super Sundae Recipe Contest by Turkey Hill starts now

Turkey Hill is at it again with another fun contest, the Super Sundae Contest, and this time its all about coming up with an awesome recipe for a sundae, creating it, naming it, taking fabulous photos of it, and submitting by Nov 14th. How fun and somewhat simple...um...I think! Well I say that but when I try to think of what kind of sundae I would create I draw blanks but I do know that chocolate is part of the equation and I am going to enter so look out for a sneak peek in the near future.

Oh and I think the hard part of this all could be the photos as they talk about in a recent blog post about food photography and the fact that the sundaes will be judged 50% on the recipe and 50% on the photo so even more pressure. This is always my challenge when I make some ice cream then try to shoot it to post. Inevitably it starts turning into soup before I get that great shot. So this could be even trickier seeing that a hot sauce could be involved as well as whipped cream but I guess if one melts I eat it then try again. Oh that really stinks!

Oh and the important part...the prizes! Turkey Hill is going to choose four of their favorite entries and post for you to vote on (hopefully mine will be there!) and the sundae with the most votes will get a super sundae prize package containing 10 free containers of Turkey Hill ice cream, a set of six Bormioli Rocco waffle cone-inspired glass sundae dishes, a Tovolo Standz Ice Cream Scoop, and a jar of Ghirardelli chocolate fudge sauce. And so nobody goes home empty handed, each finalist will also receive a one-month supply of Turkey Hill ice cream...not so shabby!

I'll be sure to share the trials and tribulations of my sundae creations. Good luck and can't wait to see the results!

Vote For Your Favorite Eagle Brand Ice Cream Recipe!

As Tina mentioned, I was a bit tied up lately (thanks for the good wishes -- we are totally enjoying our time with Violet!), but at the same time, I am told I can't move around too much so it's a good time to catch up on the blog while I also catch up on LOST. (Yep, Kevin pulled me and now we are addicted!)

    The Ultimate Banana Split

I read about this on the Naptime Chef site (though now I can't find her link -- I wonder if she took it down).

This promotion is right up our alley. I wonder why WE don't get invited to parties like this?! We get left out, but we love our readers so we happily share these cool contests with you.

    From the "Kelly Confidental" site
"Create your ultimate banana split. Each day you do, Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund1. Plus, you'll be entered for a chance to win the daily prize, $50 toward sweet summer treats, AND the grand prize - the ultimate kitchen "split" - the new stand-alone refrigerator and freezer from Electrolux2." (please see here for further details)
This is pretty fun and comes with good prizes and a good cause. You can make your sundaes and enter through September 7, 2010.

I wish I could email my split like you can email your cake, but alas, I just had to take a screen shot to share it with you. I suppose they are aware that ice cream just doesn't mail well.

Finally, for an additional treat for those who aren't satisfied with licking the screen, Serendipity 3 founder Steven Bruce shares with us some of his favorite split recipes

In other news, our Dovebar Coupon drawing had ten contactable (is that even a word?) entrants for ten coupons, so everyone was a winner! Congrats to everyone who "played"!

The drawing we held on National Ice Cream Day (best day of the year) was held today and Ivy of Little Ivy Cakes won a coupon for free ice cream. We love Ivy and her blog and her ideas for celebrating National Caviar Day with National Ice Cream Day. You tell us how that is, Ivy!

More drawings to follow. Keep visiting our site and send your friends!

What Would You Do for a Klondike Bar Variety? Video Contest

Ok, so I have never been a fan of Adam Carolla but he got even lower on my list when he dissed Click and Clack of NPR's Car Talk by saying his new car show would be better than theirs...as if!

Anyway, but I do love Klondike bars and I would love to see our Scoopalicious readers make better videos than his in Klondike's summer video contests. Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Click and Clack entered themselves?! Yay, East Cambridge neighbors!

    Anyway, I digress...

There are three different contests to enter, staggered over the course of the summer.

    • Pack the Car (through June 23) -- win a new SUV
    • Grab the Remote (starts June 30) -- win a 3D home entertainment system
    • Ball Toss (starts July 31) -- win a "tricked out" game room

I have to say that because the announcer announces the contest as "a celebration of the average man doing average things in an above average way..." and actually, the contest is called the Everyman Challenge, the whole campaign seems a little "guy-centric" but we assure you any ice cream afficianado whether man or woman has what it takes to win! Especially our readers!

You can also head over to the site to view and vote on your favorite videos.

Not sure I should enter the contest since Adam Carolla is one of the judges and he now knows I am not a fan, but you can still should enter and win the cool prizes so we can brag for you!..

Either way, I need to go grocery shopping right about now, and I might just have to pick up a yummy Klondike Variety while I am out! I am already a huge fan of their sandwiches...

Flavor of the Month: Stone Ridge Creamery's Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

Yes, I'm cutting this "Flavor of the Month" a bit close for making it into April, but I'm doing it!

A couple of weeks ago I finally posted a review about some samples we got in the mail from Stone Ridge Creamery. Shortly after, there was a comment from "Lucky" asking why we had not yet reviewed Stone Ridge's Amy's Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream...why not? Because I didn't even know it existed. Well, Friday I stopped at Shaw's to pick some up and all I have to say is "Thank you, Lucky!" Oh, and "It's a good thing I am pregnant and due in August because these elastic waisted pants are serving more than my baby belly!"

So I have a major complaint before I go into detail about how much I loved this ice cream -- if only the Stone Ridge Creamery website were even HALF as good as their ice cream. Their website is simply an image. You can't click on anything, you can't get more information. I suppose you could call Customer Service for more information at 1-877-932-7948, but picking up a phone and calling is so old school.

I can't even get you any pictures so you know what to look for in your grocer's freezer...I'll have to post a picture of my crushed carton...

NOTE: As I attempted to finish writing this post today, however, cooincidentally I recieved an emailed press release about this ice cream (as well as the two others that were introduced along with it) and the super cool story about how the ice cream flavors came to be -- a companywide contest! See below for a quote from the SUPERVALU press release:
If you think you can’t lick a prize like this one, ask three SUPERVALU® (NYSE: SVU) associates who were named the winners of the company’s employee “Stone Ridge Creamery® Name Your Dream Flavor Sweepstakes.” In addition to receiving free ice cream for a year and a $500 gift card, the winning associates will have their dream flavors added to the Stone Ridge Creamery lineup and their caricatures featured on the carton.
Thanks Amy Youngblood, "senior business support specialist at SUPERVALU’s innovation center in Minneapolis," for your "Red Velvet Cake" suggestion! Here's her story with how she came up with the flavor:

Red Velvet Cake has long been a favorite family dessert for any celebration — from birthdays to weddings,” Youngblood said. “I also thought this flavor would be a great choice because Red Velvet Cake itself is a classic, nostalgic flavor that would be a natural addition to the retro feel of the Stone Ridge Creamery lineup. However, it still feels modern and innovative since it’s a flavor not commonly found in ice cream.
Amy, I love your retro with a contemporary feel!

Flavorwise, I found this ice cream to be very rich and creamy and the carton was polished off long before this post was finished. I loved the swirls of vanilla ice cream in the chocolate, but more than Red Velvet Cake, this ice cream actually reminded me of Hoodsie Cups I loved so much as a kid. Who am I kidding? I still love them! Haha! Anyway, this ice cream takes me back to elementary school when on a hot day we'd be surprised with the personal cups of creamy goodness and our own little wooden paddle spoon!

Back to the product at hand, though. I find this dessert to be the adult version of Hoodsie Cups -- comforting and wonderfully tasty. The packaging is fun as well, with Retro Amy holding a huge red velvet cake. My one complaint is that I didn't LOVE how the cream cheese swirls didn't swirl so well into the ice cream -- it seemed to be more of an afterthought you were left over with rather than being so well integrated with the ice cream. It acted like a mix-in rather than a swirl that melted with the ice cream on your tongue. But that certainly wouldn't be enough to keep me from buying it again!

    Stone Ridge's other winner's were:

    • Tom Lindberg, retail technology specialist for SUPERVALU’s supply chain services northern region in Minneapolis, for his “Twisted Pretzel” flavor
    • Joe Agrusa, direct store delivery receiver at the Albertsons store in Chula Vista, Calif., for his “Italian Kiss” flavor

Congrats Joe and Tom! Can't wait to try, especially if they are as tasty as Amy's dream ice cream!

    Help and Win!

A while back we asked for help in compiling a list of readers' recommendations for top ice cream shops. We didn't get too much feedback (thanks to those of you who did help!), but we still want some to know where your favorite place is!

Make a suggestion here by November 16th, and you could win a copy of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book. Help us out and you could be a winner! And suggesting a Ben and Jerry's shop does not get you bonus points...we are actually after more of the local, "hidden gem" scoop shops!

To be entered as a winner, please be sure to include your email address on the form. And not to worry. If you already helped us out, you will still be entered into the drawing for the book!

    Enter here!

    Howtoons Ice Cream Contest

Since two people sent me links about this today (thanks Rachel and Marsha) I figured I'd better get posting! (This is also a nice break from a logo project I have been staring at for too long...)

I've never heard of Howtoons before, but it is apparently "The World's Greatest D.I.Y. Comic Website"...pretty cool.

Checkout this Howtoon below with instructions on making ice cream!

Are You Making Ice Cream?, ©Howtoons, howtoons.com

Did you read it closely? You are going to need it...

Howtoons is closing out the summer with a contest -- use the Howtoon above to make ice cream, and send in your best recipe...you could be a winner!

For more details, visit the Howtoons website.

Since I couldn't find an "enter by" date, I sent an email to find out. The super nice (and awesomely quick at replying) folks over at Howtoons just sent me an email letting us know when their contest runs until: "Recipes must be submitted to us by the end of the day 9/21. We will then post the winners by 9/28."

Ice Cream Social at Scotty's Snacks Blog

Michelle over at Ice Cream Forum (we'll be profiling Ice Cream Forum soon, so stay tuned!) sent us this head's up:

Scotty's Snacks (along with Savor the Thyme and Tangled Noodle) is having an Ice Cream Social over at their blog. Time is running out so head over for more details, but the gist of it is that "everyone can participate by simply submitting photos of ice cream, URL’s for your videos of ice cream and/or URL’s of your home-made ice cream recipe posts to icecream-at-scottysnacks.com."

These are due by July 31st. Everyone will be recognized for their efforts, and some will even be chosen as prize winners -- which are, as Scotty's says, a "sur-prize!"

(I'm trying to decide which to enter myself...while I like the pomegranate buttermilk photo at left, I wasn't such a fan of the flavor...!)

    Speaking of Turkey Hill...

I know I should have told you about this sooner, but my-oh-my have things been busy this summer!

Turkey Hill's blog, Ice Cream Journal, is doing some pretty awesome celebrating about Ice Cream Month as well. If you don't visit Ice Cream Journal regularly, you should. They've got a great blog -- just do us a favor and don't leave Scoopalicious completely -- you can read two ice cream blogs!

Anyway, this month they are celebrating with great facts, contests and prizes. In fact, leave a comment on their daily post and you could be the random winner of two containers of Turkey Hill Ice Cream! What could be finer?

They also have trivia contests that not only brush up your ice cream knowledge, but also have some pretty cool prizes.

Though we are not Ice Cream Journal's sister blog, we do wish we could be. Maybe cousins?

Tomorrow is your last chance to vote for your favorite ice cream cupcake in this year's ice cream cupcake roundup. Voting for your favorite ice cream cupcake doesn't have to be all about the other person, either. Vote and you are entered to win an eight pack of "Happy Birthday" cupcake cards (yeah, you can't see it but there is some ice cream in the cupcake, too!) made by me!

Remember to vote by 11:59 PM PST on Sunday, June 7th!
