Sometimes our posts are area specific. (Sorry those of you who don't live in the cities listed in the post title...) And sometimes they are a bit late. (Sorry L.A., D.C., Miami, and San Fran...) We are truly sorry about leaving people out at times, but feel free to let us know of something local to you that you may want us to post about!

Anyway, Boston, Seattle, New York, and Portland...there's still time for you ask Ben & Jerry's to stop by your neighborhood so you can get some FREE Greek Frozen Yogurt! It's all about social media these days. Tweet away! Terrence (below) explains how it works in New York City, but it seems to be pretty much the same for Boston, Seattle, and Portland, too.

West Coast, (hey...Seattle and Portland, listen up!) tweet Ben & Jerry's at @BenJerrysWest.

Ice Cream Paper Goods to Print from Home...

I love design. I love ice cream. I love freebies! Design + Ice Cream + Free = Perfection.

Here's a cute ice cream freebie I first saw on Craftzine.com.

At left, Melbourne-based designer Amy Moss at Eat Drink Chic offers free "Love and Ice Cream" Gift Tag Set Printables. These are awesome, Amy! Beautiful colors, handlettering, illustration -- all combined into perfection. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and while you are there, be sure to check out her directions for a not only tasty-looking but absolutely beautiful, charming DIY Ice Cream Parlour "Make Your Own Sundaes" Concept for a Wedding or a Party. A-MA-ZING. Hmmmm, we might have to feature Amy soon -- she's all that we love -- ice cream and great design!

paper crave is another blog I follow regularly, and I came across this (inexpensive) little gem.

For $2.50, PaperGlitter sells PDFs to create your own little pink and green ice cream trucks (at right).

So fire up your printer, sharpen your scissors, and let's show some ice cream love!

We like free offers. We like ice cream. I like my iPhone. I especially wanted to post this because my husband paid the $1.99 for this game and my nephew just loved it. I haven't played it yet, but it gets a five-year-old's five scoops of approval!

Sorry for the late notice -- for some reason my head keeps telling me that tomorrow is National Ice Cream Day. It's available today for free, but I'll bet you that nephew Evan would tell you even if you miss this offer, it's worth the two bucks:

Scoopalicious Count Down to Election Day

As NPR reminded me every few minutes today, Election Day is in five, count 'em, FIVE days. As with any event, we do have the incredible talent of connecting it to ice cream, so for the next five days and all posts will be connected to the election. And then, for four more years, no more election talk...

OK, to start off the countdown, we want to remind you that if you vote our friend at Ben & Jerry's are giving out free ice cream! All you have to do? Show up at a participating Ben & Jerry's on November 4 between 5 and 8. (Apparently their original plan was to offer free scoops to only the people who voted, but since there seems to be a legal issue in doing so, they changed the event to an "everyone welcome" election day party, which makes it nice too for the under eighteen crowd.) Either way, if you are eighteen or older, I think you should still play by the original rules, show your patriotism, and vote! (This Google map makes it easy to find out where you vote this coming Tuesday, so no "I didn't know where my poling place was" excuses!)

As American as apple pie? We think not. As American as ice cream.

Free Ice Cream week a success..for me at least!

Unfortunately here in New England Free Ice Cream week was sort of a wash out, rather damp and cold, but for me any weather calls for ice cream...seriously there is no excuse. Luckily I only live near one of the three ice cream chains offering free ice cream days but the temptation was definitely there to go out of the way to hit another, the good old Ben and Jerry's. But as the crazy cost of gas skyrockets, and with a car that only takes premium, to get there was more than a cone would have cost had it not been free so I nixed that option.

So anyways, I used my three year old as a good excuse to take advantage of Baskin Robbins 31 cent scoop day and we were off. Interestingly the store near me is actually at a rest stop/visitors center (that and a Dunkin Donuts....another great reason to go there) but its accessible from a fantastic bike path not far from my house. But again, the weather was damp and cold, so we took the lazy man's route and drove....so pathetic! We've been there numerous times and its somewhat new but never many people. Seriously we get there and families were all abuzz. Amazing what 31 cent scoops will do. I could have easily just sat, watched, and listened to the discussions around me. It really is more of a sociology experiment if you ask me. So on to the ice cream. Me, I went for the Chocolate Peanut Butter...super creamy chocolate ice cream with smooth, thick bands of peanut butter ribbon throughout. I give it 5 stars for its creaminess, texture, and flavor. My daughter wanted the yellow one (why do kids choose by color?) which was a basic vanilla, not so exciting, but the fun part for her was that for the first time she enjoyed it on a cone. I was very scared about the mess but she downed the scoop so it never had time to melt! But the kicker was that the scoop was 31 cents and if you wanted the cone it was an additional 40 cents! Guess they have to make there money one way but sort of false advertising to me.

Well I made my money back because as I waited in line I noticed others having quarts packed....seriously is it that good of a bargain? Well I was easily persuaded by those around me and was sold. I walked away with two pints which they counted as 5 scoops each. Where do you get a pint of premium ice cream for $1.55. Wow, what a deal. I was very tempted earlier by York Peppermint Patty, vanilla with tons of mini peppermint patties and bands of dark mint chocolate ribboned throughout, so that called my name and then I had to bring some home for Scott and he loves oreo cookie . So one cone, one dish, and 2 pints later, oh and for a whopping $4.12 we had a superduper ice cream night!

Free Ice Cream Week Observations
Baskin Robbins 31 cent Scoop Day
-a cone was not included in the 31 cents scoop deal
-10 scoops per person
-you could fill a pint or quart with 31 cent scoops (which I joyfully skipped away with!)

Ben and Jerry's Free Scoop Day
-Free scoop was limited to six certain flavors
(which I believe is new because I have been in the past and its any flavor but a friend went and was disapponted to find out that you could only choose certain kinds. I'll have to find out what those were. I would be interested to know if they were based on favorites or possibly cost. If Cake Batter is an option I am there next year!)

Did you take advantage of Free Ice Cream week? We'd love to hear from you!

Stay tuned for my version of an Ice Cream Cupcake and we can't wait to see what you all come up with! (see previous post for details)

It's Free (or Cheap) Ice Cream Week!

It's that time of year again...back in 1979, to celebrate their first anniversary, one Vermont ice cream company decided to have a free cone day. As you know, it's all about keeping up with the Joneses. Lucky for us, two other companies followed suit and this week, starting Tuesday, you can hop from shop to shop and get your fill of ice cream!

Tuesday it's free cone day at Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shops! Stop by, but be prepared to stand in line, because this freebie always draws mad crowds.

Wednesday, search under your couch cushions for loose change. If you find 31¢, you're in luck...take your 31¢ and head over to participating Baskin-Robbins between 5 and 10pm to take your pick of their 31 flavors...a scoop is only gonna cost you one quarter, one nickel, and one penny (Or three dimes, and a penny. Or thirty one pennies. You get my drift.)

Thursday, head over to Carvel after work for some caffeine and cream. Carvel is offering a free arctic blender or blended coffee.

Friday, no free ice cream, but buck up. There's only one day until the weekend.

Celebrate Patriot's Day with Cold Stone Creamery (Boston and New Hampshire)

Celebrate Patriot's Day with a free treat at Cold Stone Creamery today -- New Hampshire and Boston only (which is kind of odd to me, because it's only Massachusetts, Maine, and Wisconsin that observe the holiday -- but by all means, glad New Hampshire can participate!). "The free, 3 oz, Ice Cream CreationTM named 'Patriots' Day Creation' is made with Cake BatterTM Ice Cream, brownies, fudge and patriotic red and blue sprinkles.

Locations include:
Boston: Beacon Hill, Brighton, Agganis Arena, Charlestown, Fenway, Prudential Center, Theatre District
Massachusetts: Bellingham, Burlington, Hingham, Hyannis, Leominster, Mansfield, Medford, Millbury, Newton Centre, Plymouth, Southborough, Westwood
New Hampshire: Manchester, Nashua, Newington

By the way, if I ever motivated to run the Boston Marathon, I would SO be that person that ran to the ice cream store after the run. But, yeah, right...me run a marathon?! Which reminds me, a shout-out to our dear friend Steve who is running today to support The Fitness for Kids Foundation. Way to go, Steve!

Thanks to Arianna for this reminder about this event!
