Enter the Ice Cream Cupcake Contest 2012

Wow, we can't believe it's already time for the 5th Annual Scoopalicious/Cupcake Project Ice Cream Cupcake Contest!

Since we've done this for the last four years, the best way to get an idea of what an ice cream cupcake is, is to look back at previous entries.

We've got some great prizes and some great judges this year, so get crackin' and enter by June 30, 2012.

Since Stef at Cupcake Project wrote such a wonderful post with all the information about this event, we are going to send you over there for contest and entry details.

Good luck and cannot wait to see what you all submit!

Come back often to see the entries!

60 Ice Cream Cupcake Contest Entries...WOW!

Was it the promise of winning a collection of cookbooks, could it be a sign of the increasing popularity of cupcakes (don't listen to those all-hype media stories about cupcakes being on the way out), or perhaps it was the excitement about this year's fabulous blogger judges Nicole Weston from Baking Bites, Jessie Oleson from CakeSpy, and Naomi Robinson from Bakers Royale? Whatever the reason, we at Scoopalicious along with Stef at Cupcake Project received 60 ice cream cupcake contest entries (double the number we received last year)! As usual, the entries were well thought out, hunger-inducing, and visually appealing.

Click here to view each entry if you are not seeing them below. Sorry for the confusion!

Below, you will find each entry along with a brief description and a link to either the blog post about the entry or the Facebook page where the entrant provided the recipe.  If you've got some time (hours), check them all out now!  Otherwise, we encourage you to bookmark this page and return for inspiration the next time you want a unique and icy cool cupcake.

A note to our entrants:  The judges are working on selecting their favorites now and they will decide upon a winner by the end of the month.

Announcing the 2011 Ice Cream Cupcake Contest

It's time again for the Cupcake Project and Scoopalicious Ice Cream Cupcake Contest - your opportunity to showcase your amazing ice cream cupcake creations just in time for Summer!

What's an Ice Cream Cupcake?

For a brief introduction to ice cream cupcakes, check out Stef's post on ice cream cupcakes. For tons of inspiration, check out the drool-worthy entries from 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Prizes

This year's winner will receive a whole library of baking cookbooks!!  For the complete list of prizes, see the end of this post.

Judges

This year, we are doing things a bit differently.  We've asked three of our favorite dessert bloggers to help us judge the contest.  If you have not checked out these amazing blogs, now is a good time to head over there, try to figure out what flavors they like and don't like browse their recipes, and leave bribes say, "Hi!"
Each of these judges will be writing a post on their own blogs about their top three ice cream cupcakes - giving you a chance for your cupcake and your blog to get even more exposure!

Official Rules:
  • Dates: You can enter any time through June 15, 2011.
  • How to Enter:
  1. Create a recipe for ice cream cupcakes! The ice cream cupcakes must contain cake and ice cream (or frozen yogurt, gelato, or something ice cream-like). Cupcakes baked in ice cream cones without a frozen element are not eligible.
  2. Write a post on your blog about your creation any time prior to June 15. The post must include a photo, a recipe, and a link to both this post and the post at Cupcake Project. If you don't have a blog, you can still enter (you'll find details on the entry form), but why not start one?
  3. Post a photo of your cupcake to the Cupcake Project Facebook Wall. Please upload as large a photo as possible so that we can be sure to best showcase it in the roundup post. Please include the title of your cupcake and a link to your post in the photo caption.
  4. Complete the entry form
  • Number of Entries per Person: Sorry, we are allowing just one entry per person this year - so make it count!
  • International Entrants:  International readers are welcome to enter, but prizes can not be shipped internationally. You will win bragging rights and you will have the opportunity to gift your prizes to any person or organization in the United States. Update 5/18:  We are willing to ship internationally, but only if you are willing to pay the postage.
    Prizes

The winner will be announced by July 1 and will receive an amazing collection of dessert cookbooks from some of our favorite authors!

    From author Krystina Castella:

From authors Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough:

From Nicole Weston, author and contest judge:

From Jessie Oleson, author and contest judge (to be delivered upon book release):

    From Bakerella:

From Emma Hand, creator of Snap Stories and designer of our amazing new Ice Cream Cupcake Contest logo:

HUGE HUGE thanks to our judges and to all of the authors that provided prizes for this event!

Happy baking, and start making some room on your bookshelf (you've got to be an optimist, right?)!

The Winner of the 2010 Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup (in honor of National Creative Ice Cream Day!)

Happy National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day!

We think the winner of the Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup this year also falls under a creative ice cream flavor, so we are excited that we are posting the winner today!

Voters had the following things to say about the winning cupcake in this year's Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup:
    • All I have to say is--this looks awesome!
    • I wish I had a dozen to snack on right now!
    • Yum, can't wait to make this!
    • Beautiful presentation--obviously made by a wonderful, loving chef that really knows cupcakes!!
    • OMG, this is mouthwatering.. I'm going to go out and make this right now.
    • Sounds super tasty, but not too out there! And perfect all year round.
    • Very creative, appealing, and perfectly executed cupcake!
    • This one makes me drrrrroooooool.
    • Its Sooo tempting... i wish i could just eat it out of my screeen :)
    • one of the best combos in a cupcake, my mouths watering just thinking about it
    • this cupcake looks like a little party in my mouth and I want to make them.
Still wondering which cupcake it was?  These comments might help:
    • This recipe brings me back to my fantastic trip to Seville!
    • Crunchy and creamy! The best combination ever!
    • I will definitely try to make come next Cinco de Mayo!
    • Wow! How different - usually we see cinnamon used in baked goods - these are so original!
And if you still haven't figured it out, this should do it:
    • I would absolutely dive into the Churro Pecan Icecream Cupcake! It sounds like a trifecta of yum!
    • Churros are my favorite dessert aside from cupcakes, so this one captured the best of the best for me :-)
    • If only they sold those Churro Pecan Ice Cream Cupcakes on the streets of Mexico City! Mmm mmm delicious!
    • The churro pecan ice cream cupcake has got to be the most fabulous thing I've ever heard of!
    • Cupcake+Churros+Cinammon = No Competition !
    • The churro pecan ice cream cupcake looks pretty, but not fussy. It seems like there would be great harmony in the flavors. And I like the idea of the crunchy churro texture and the caramelized pecans in the ice cream.
    • Churros are the guilty pleasure of any fair in Florida! Combined with the southern flair of pecans- sounds perfect to me!
    • In my opinion, the Churro Pecan ice cream cupcapke has a perfect blending of flavors and textures. This cupcake gets my vote.
    • They all look pretty great, but churros+pecans=yowza!
    • I love churros! I love pecans! Putting them together is one of the smartest things I personally have ever heard. I wish I had one of these right now!! :) The presentation is gorgeous, too!
    • MMmmm... Churros...
    • Green Doxie should really open up a five star cup cake shop! She is creative in her makings! I want to buy all her cupcakes!

We will also be mailing an OXO prize pack to our other two finalists (The Ultimate Bacon Chocolate Ice Cream Cupcake by Stephanie of 52 Kitchen Adventures and Tiny Rainbow Sherbet Cupcakes by Jenn of JustJenn Recipes) and two lucky voters (Joy Sato and Christine (figgee.geo))!

We wish that we could give everyone a prize.  It was such a close competition with so many amazing entries.  Congrats go out to all of our participants!

Thanks again to all of our participants, sponsors, and voters and to Stef at Cupcake Project for co-hosting and doing so much work for the roundup!

Cinnamon pecan ice cream that was used in the winning entry seems to be a pretty creative flavor (and a creative use of the ice cream as well), but keep coming back this month for more exciting and creative flavors.

[Scoopalicious is celebrating National Ice Cream month with a Post-A-Day throughout the month of July!]

    Again, congrats to all!

Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup 2010: Entries Are In!

The 2010 Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup entry period is over and, once again, you have wowed us with your ice cream cupcake creations!  All of the entries are detailed below - but first, a quick reminder about the rules.

Only the ice cream cupcake roundup entrants can vote in the first round of voting and of course they can't vote for themselves.  They will be picking the three finalists who will each win an OXO Prize Pack including OXO Good Grips Solid Stainless Steel Ice Cream Scoop, Oxo Good Grips 2-Cup Angled Measuring Cup, OXO Good Grips 1169600 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set, Blue/Green/Yellow, Oxo Good Grips Bent Icing Knife, and an Oxo Good Grips PRO Grater!!  If you entered the contest, you'll be receiving an email with instructions on how to vote.  I don't envy you.  It will be hard to choose!

Once the finalists are chosen, the general public will get to pick the grand prize winner of the Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker.  Look out for your chance to vote next week (two voters will win the same OXO Prize Pack as our finalists)!

As you read through the entries, note that each entry title links to a blog post or Flickr post (if the creator does not have a blog) with details about the cupcake.  If you have the time, I would encourage you to click through and read the stories and recipes behind these masterpieces.
