The Unabridged Ice Cream Flavor Creator

Many of the most popular ice cream flavors out there are combinations of things: butter pecan, chocolate marshmallow, cookies and cream.

Some of the my favorite flavors are ones that probably had no business being made into ice cream at all, but somehow they work.

So, what happens if you take the USDA food database, combine two items completely at random, and turn it into an ice cream flavor?

Wonder no longer, because we have created it for you here!

The Unabridged Ice Cream Flavor Creator:

Click the button as much as you'd like and try your luck!

Admittedly most of these ice cream flavors should not be made. Some are are beyond bad and possibly illegal--Bethany stumbled across a whale meat flavor in the making of this post.

However, once in a while something pops up that makes you think. My personal favorite so far is this:
SAUERKRAUT,CND,SOL&LIQUIDS
AND
HORSERADISH-TREE,PODS,CKD,BLD,DRND,WO/SALT

Give it a spin and leave your favorite flavors in the comments below!

Happy Birthday Slurpee! Free Slurpee Today!

I don't know if this counts under National Ice Cream Month, but I don't want to pass up the chance of letting you know about another free treat!

Slurpee turns 44 this month and to celebrate, 7-Eleven is giving away free 7.11-ounce Slurpees at participating shops. Hurry over! This event is happening from 8am to 11pm. (Yes, we think it would have made more sense for it to start at seven and end at eleven, too...)

Stunning Paper Ice Cream

I love ice cream but what you might not know about me is that my second love is paper (I can probably speak for Bethany here and say she does too!). As designers how can you not and as designers how can we not be wowed by this amazing paint chip paper sculpture by Matthew Sporzynski (of Real Simple paper sculpture) which he created for a Sherwin Williams ad campaign (check out all the ads in the campaign here). Apparently it also appeared on the cover of Graphic Design USA, which I like to check out, but we actually stumbled upon it on this great craft blog, Craft.

I love these paper sculptures so much I have to share some of his other creations that somehow relate to ice cream...we make ice cream with milk and just honored National Strawberry Sunday Day so I think these work!

Scoopalicious scoops about Ice Cream Sandwiches in Woman's World

I so love reading magazines this time of year because most of them dedicate more than a few pages on frozen treats. And its even more fun to be able to be able to contribute our thoughts on what's worth a try. Check out the most recent article in the July 1 issue of Woman's World, "You deserve the best....Ice Cream Sandwiches" where Bethany and I were able to share one of our favorite treats, the Blue Bunny Birthday Party Ice Cream Sandwich. When Kristina from Bauer Publishing called to ask our opinion on ice cream sandwiches for her article it was way too easy to come up with one as I literally had just walked in the door with a fresh box of Blue Bunny Birthday Party Ice Cream Sandwiches. And Bethany is such a huge cake batter ice cream fan that she too had the same sandwich in mind so we dished about it together.

As you'll read in the article, The Blue Bunny Birthday Party Ice Cream sandwich is full of confetti sprinkles, swirls of blue frosting, and it has a wonderful cake batter flavor. When Kristina asked us to think about what makes it unique we both agreed that its just not your typical sandwich. One expects chocolate wafers with vanilla ice cream in between but this one has vanilla wafers with confetti filled cake batter ice cream sandwiched between the sweet soft cookies. It's refreshing, sweet, and fun to eat. Oh and light too which is a bonus after daily intakes of ice cream in this heat! I must admit my five year old convinced me to first get them but I quickly became hooked and now they are a staple in our freezer.

Hopefully its not too late to check out the article because it also has ideas on other good choices for ice cream sandwiches. Speaking of light...another favorite of mine, Skinny Cow Mint Ice Cream Sandwiches also got a shout out and our other favorite brand, Turkey Hill, gets a mention for their Limited Edition Strawberry Cheesecake sandwiches which I must admit I have not tried but they sound awesome.

Thanks Kristina for reaching out to us. We love to share our passion and love for ice cream with the world and your readers!
