The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl 2010 - Your chance for FREE tickets

Oh the day we wait for all year long is quickly coming and we couldn't be more excited! Its Scooper Bowl 2010, the all-you-can-eat ice cream extravaganza on Boston City Hall Plaza that supports cancer care and research for adults and children at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Wow, its been 27 years since the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl has been gorging people of all ages with ice cream and in return has raised more than $2.65 million for cancer research. Simply amazing and just awesome!

This year it means even more to me for more than one reason. Not only am I a huge ice cream fan who attends this event faithfully but cancer runs way too close to me as well. Recently a close family member was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and she is fighting every step of the way. Not only is her husband a cancer survivor (he is the 5% with his rare form of cancer that has made it almost 10 years!) but she also has an even more rare form and is fighting the battle in the most positive way. SO if it takes eating a little (more like a whole lot!) of ice cream to help make a difference I am there!

And we want you to be too because its super fun, super yummy and all for a great cause. If you are interested in trying bottomless cups of more than 30 flavors of ice cream on one given day and taking part in this super fun event just post a comment and we'll be raffling off a pair of tickets (compliments of The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl..thanks Dana!). Comment by the end of the day Tuesday, June 1st to qualify.

Ice Cream in an Instant

Growing up I always loved vanilla Pudding Pops which, as I was just reading, have a habit of disappearing and then reappearing from the market.

I don't know why it just occurred to me to freeze pudding in my ice cream maker, as I have never seen pudding NOT on the shelf.

Since I always keep milk in my fridge and an ice cream machine canister in my freezer, I am going to start keeping a large box of Jell-O Instant Pudding on my shelf for last minute desserts. What's super cool while visiting the Instant Pudding link is all the possibilities of 30 minute ice cream (or should we call it ice pudding/ice milk?) we could be making!

The process was simple:

  1. As directed on the box (I used the large size), using a whisk, mix 1 package of pudding into 3 cups of milk. (I used whole milk.)
  2. Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and churn according to the ice cream maker's directions.
Voila! In less than 30 minutes, a creamy cold dessert, perfect for this 99.6° weather here in the Boston area!

Note, I don't know how this will ripen in the freezer, since I just put it in the freezer about a half an hour ago, but I can tell you right out of the ice cream maker it was pretty darn good and creamy!

Don't have an ice cream maker? Enter our Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup for a chance to win. In the meantime, make your own pudding pops -- but a warning -- these take five hours to freeze.

Ice Cream Land Tee -- TODAY ONLY!

It's been a while since we posted...Tina's been away and with my pregnancy back pain, I can only sit briefly at the computer...hope to be back to regularly posting again soon -- no pun intended.

Anyway, a perfect image to offset this hot New England weather today...I want to go there...ice cream land!

Like the image? Want to wear it? From the moment I post this, you have about 10 hours and 45 minutes to buy it at Ript Tees for ten dollars...

I can't comment about the quality or anything as I have never bought anything from them, but it's a pretty fun -- er, um, cool -- image! Thanks to Tobe Fonseca for such a cool image submission!
